After Sandy, Port Hope

The day after Hurricane Sandy...I parked near a Lake Ontario Beach at Port Hope. The water was green with steady whitecaps.....the wind really picked up at one point and the car was rocking back and forth.

Rainy Saturday

....the perfect stillness of a rainy Saturday morning. I opened the car windows to get a proper view without the windows steaming up. 7.5 x 9.75 inches, acrylic on archival print paper.

Late Day, Lost Dog Hill

...the darker, greyer, wetter days of late fall. It was interesting achieving the mood here; it came close to matching what I saw, and was based on the relationship of about 5 colours. 11 x 15 acrylic and pencil on unprimed printing paper.

.....when you walk slowly in the country, you see a great many little things of interest. Things that you might not even comment on to a companion, but, to yourself, you say 'well, isn't that something'.

 

Stand, October 17

I always look at my little stand as I walk by....for the longest time it remained green but on October 17 one section turned bright yellow. 11 x 15 Acrylic and pencil on archival print paper.

Home Trail

There are certain vivid light greens that survive into October, along with the bright reds and yellows.  On archival printing paper, 11 x 15 inches.

Now it will often be getting dark or even completely dark by the time I get home in the evening......last light as I head out for my walk. Acrylic and pencil on print paper, 11 x 15 inches.

October Blue

Sitting quietly in my car, on a deserted road next to the forest, watching the active sky move by. October can be a bittersweet time.....so beautiful and often temperate....and so close to November which can be brutal. Acrylic on paper, 7.5 x 8.75 inches.

From Time Capsule Rock

I stopped at a small churchyard atop a hill, and leaned against a large boulder that bore an inscription that a time capsule lay beneath. I'm looking across a very dry cornfield.

Hidden Field, Thanksgiving

The day before dismissing for Thanksgiving weekend, I ventured deep into the forest and found a few hidden fields. The sky was moving quickly and it was still quite warm.

September End

A few minutes of concentrated drawing engrains the memory, likely forever. I still remember fragments, smells, the quality of the air, surrounding sounds, when I look at drawings and paintings I made on location years ago. In this case, I parked in a little path leading to this field. A little thicket was to my left, with insects buzzing in it, the leaves already bright with autumn......the sunshine was warm on a peaceful mid afternoon in late September.
