Some New Greeting Cards

 

Here are a few new greeting cards, 5 x 7 inches, blank on the inside, with some original images on the front. I love printing on old book papers....the rag content in the paper is high, and it takes the printers' ink and watercolour so nicely. One image is also a little acrylic collage. Everything looks so beautiful when you put it in a plastic sleeve! These 4 are in my Etsy store now.

Thank you to Matt Hyatt for sending me a very thoughtful note and this photo of my painting on his kitchen wall. It gives me great pleasure to see where my paintings end up. He looks great there, and very much at home!

In a work session it helps to just keep going. The mirror is set up in front of me so I can turn to that as other plates were drying. This method is so responsive because it's very much like drawing. First the plate was completely covered, then wiped to expose the head shape, then worked back in to. If I got too picky or precious (which I did once or twice), I would just wipe the whole passage out and draw back in......no long pauses for too much thought or fuss, but there was time for some self evaluation.

Both of these little monotypes are the first printings. In each case I printed the plates a few more times. In the past, I often went back into the plates to made additions between printings, but I didn't in this case. There are always a great many things to try with monoprinting. The workspace shot is my little table at Haliburton. I miss that lovely studio already.

Collage from acrylic painted papers...just a stroke or two of colour on top. Most of my things are done in less than two hours......but I worked on this for 4-6 hours. It went through a lot of changes and has many pieces. I had to rewet the back and clamp it under a tall stack of books to get it to lay reasonably straight.

....started in the AP class to show them that a work can be built, decision by decision. It is better to make more decisions rather than fewer decisions...complicate, and if that becomes too much, then simplify. One learns by making more and more decisions. Adding is a decision...and so is taking away.

Head

This from a few days ago. I was pleased with how it turned out. As always, the point is to go on until it is satisfying in some way, and hopefully, satisfying in a way that hasn't quite happened before. Started with cut shapes, and paint at the end. The painting has to deliver a charge and usually, any sign of technical pickiness causes me to rework and simplify.
