Line Them Up!
....after I make each one, I stare at it for a good long time. The sign will hang from my tent at The Shelter Valley Folk Festival, near Grafton, Ontario, where I will show very many works on paper, Friday Sept. 4 - Sunday Sept, 6. I'll make a few paintings while the folk festival is going on.......I wouldn't mind if someone sat for a portrait.....

Incoming at Dusk
....a companion piece to the one posted the other day. A number of years ago I started doing these sky scapes with just a bit on land on the bottom....I make a few every now and then when the skies are very active. Acrylic and pencil on single ply archival matte 7.75 x 9.75 inches, signed lightly in pencil.

Storm Coming, July 31
Acrylic and pencil on single ply archival matte, 7.75 x 9.75 inches, singed lightly in pencil. A few storms rolled through yesterday making for interesting sky viewing. The first downpour of the day was fierce.

Moon at Dusk, July 27
I set out a little later than usual because it was so hot all day....a calm, beautiful evening....the moon hanging in the south sky.....acrylic and pencil on single ply archival matte 7.75 x 10 inches.
Although these pictures look very representational, even realistic, on any given day this could have turned out to be something relatively abstract, or fully abstract....just as easily. The only thing that does stay consistent is the idea that something in the world is being thought about as the work is being made......

High July, Garden HIll
High July, Garden Hill.
...a varied day, rain in the morning....sunshine in the afternoon, thunder storms in late afternoon....evening still to be decided. I love this patch of green as I enter into the valley of Garden Hill. Acrylic collage painting on single ply archival matte 7.75 x 9 inches. There are only 3 pieces of collage on this to start (that fill the whole page)...the rest is acrylic on top....but the collage is key.www.harrystooshinoff.com

Look South
...acrylic and pencil on single ply archival matte board, 7.75 x 9.75 inches. The evening sounds that filter in are pleasing....the sound of a distant motor fading in and out of range.....the constant sound of birds, different in each location.....
....having a good roll in the gravel....Sam always helps with the photos when I take them at the pond. It's his favourite place in the property.....the place where he found refuge when he decided he'd like to live here....

Acrylic collage painting on single ply archival matte board 7.75 x 9.75 inches......sometimes it's as if certain trees want their portrait painted.
I remember looking at a Cezanne painting in the Art Gallery of Ontario...not necessarily the strongest Cezanne...but there was one long stroke in there made with a skinny brush.....a tree branch that angled up and to the left...such a wonderful stroke...

Richardson's Lookout, July 27 (SOLD)
The hill is the highest point in this area. With some regularity I wander up there and make drawings that become paintings. You can see for miles in every direction. Lake Ontario is a half hour drive south and on a clear day it's visible from the top of the hill. Acrylic and pencil on unprimed archival single ply matte board. (SOLD)

Incoming, Cty Rd. 10
As the series progresses, over many years, there are subtle changes in both the process and approach. This one is very noticeably different from the one before in a few significant ways.

Kestrel Place

....on my usual walk to this field with a distant view....some new companions. 2 kestrels sound their territorial alarm when I come within a short distance of this place. They have been dive bombing me regularly, sometimes coming quite close....I can hear the air of their wings as they pull out of the dive at the last second. Acrylic and pencil on matte board gessoed both sides, 8 x 8 inches.

Morning Near Ida
...many of these roads are wonderful to travel. You never know where you will end up, and you find some beautiful properties...even better if you find a Saturday garage sale with some rare books. These hills are always enchanting....in this case the sliver of light green on the distant hill was compelling. Acrylic on matteboard gessoed both sides, 8 x 8 inches.

To Lake Ontario
Another gorgeous late June Day. About 5 miles north of Lake Ontario...looking south. Acrylic and pencil on unprimed single ply archival matteboard 9 x 9.5 inches. Listed on Etsy today and sold half an hour later. I like how this one turned out. The diagram for it was more sketchy and general than normal, but I had a strong memory of the scene. It's very improvised.....almost more drawing than painting. This one felt different....and I look for the differences and shifts in my procedure because they very much keep me going and interested.
