Saturday Drive Home

Even as small as my pictures are, scale remains very important. This painting for example, is 6 x 6.25 inches. I felt that making it even marginally bigger would not have been right. Even at this scale, there is a certain size that encouraged greater abandon.

  1. I think you've got a great sense of distance in this small work. Greens are so tricky and your place must be the same as my home - lots of rain so very, very green. Its impossible not to try to paint it.

  2. Interesting - mixing lamp black in - it obviously works successfully.

  3. Hi Briget,
Sorry, my setup seems to be making it difficult to post answers here. I just checked the black I used and it's warm black, and also labelled as carbon black (sorry for the mixup in the earlier email....all these blacks are a little different. For the longest time I avoided black because it was allways poopooed in my earlier training.......black was said to kill colours. I think I got this tip off the landscape painting blog that you link on your page? -Harry
