Wet Sunday

I pulled over high on a hill on a wet Sunday morning and watched the sky slowly move.

Evening, Early August

.......I wandered far back on the tractor trail of one of my favourite fields...getting near dark on a warm, humid evening......

Hidden Place

.......I like this country place I often pass by....very hidden and nicely treed. Into evening, with more than half the summer gone.

Tired Man

After the Rain

This started out as a painting and turned into a collage halfway through....I don't usually start that way. Usually, if it's a collage I start by cutting and gluing and then brushwork happens at the end.

Hiding

Sometimes there is a desire to make with less information....to not know what or how. I have a huge box of these acrylic painted papers. I start cutting and tearing. They are about design, but they are associated with specific experience/memory as well.

July End

A bittersweet time.....the crops ripen....one wants summer to go on forever.

Evening, Lost Dog Hill

It was very hot but still pleasant when I diagramed and painted this a number of days ago...now it's almost drought conditions.....hoping for rain soon.

Living Low in Australia, Mr. Kitly Gallery

I forgot to mention earlier, I was part of a show at Mr. Kitly gallery, in Brunswick, Australia, titled "Living Low". Here's a gallery shot, one of my paintings and a lovely vessel. The painting is an example of one of my few oils. Wouldn't it be great to do a painting trip in Australia!

One of the pieces made with no visual reference, and no initial intention to make the piece into anything but a relation of colour, shape and line.

Saturday Morning Blue

Saturday morning on the yard sale trail. I liked how the little white development in the far distance was entered, but the sky wouldn't sit right....so I removed the whole thing by holding it under the tap and gently rubbing.

Wendy's Hill, Early July

Midday in early July....a small painting on unprimed paper. In each of these little works I seem to be continually both accepting known methods, and on the verge of rejecting almost everything. The style changes as a result. Sometimes a few steps in one direction are taken back, only to reappear a few pictures forward.

Nearing Dusk, Early July

Process

Knowing the inevitabilities gets annoying, so something like this is a chance to oppose that, even though I know I'd still repeat a lot of the habits in the process. Acrylic on matteboard, 8 x 10 inches.

June Hill

Yellow Wedge

The farmer divided his field into sectiions. He is very conscientious, coming every few days to check the progress of growth.

Lake Ontario at Cobourg

This was the first painting on the more textured watercolour paper that I'm trying to use up. The morning was way more hazy than this......a very pleasant, windy morning.

Rogue

8 x 9.5 inches on heavy, watercolor paper. The underpainting is done in very transparent acrylic washes, opaque, heavier impasto on top.

Towards Lake Ontario

These last 2 small works were done on unprimed paper....that's what I started painting on many years ago, but almost everything lately has been done on primed paper. It felt good getting back to the 'raw' surface. Every little change in procedure is significant in the flow of the work.

Home Site 1 and 2

8 x 8 inch acrylic on matte board, unprimed. Every so often I revert back to an umprimed surface. The feel is very different from a gessoed surface and is a bit more akin to drawing. The second image was made right after the first.

June Haze

Completed just an hour ago....a lovely day that got quite hot, hence the haze.
